LOWVILLE The Lewis County Sheriffs Department is investigating an accident involving a motor vehicle and an Amish buggy Tuesday morning on Route 12 near Vary Road in the town of Harrisburg.
Sheriff Michael P. Carpinelli confirmed two people, a woman and an infant, suffered injuries in the accident, which occurred about 7:50 a.m.
The infant was taken to Lewis County General Hospital and then was flown to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, for treatment of possible head and internal injuries.
According to a sheriffs report, the female driver of the buggy suffered a minor leg injury.
The operator of the motor vehicle was not injured.
The horse had to be euthanized by staff from Countryside Veterinary Clinic.
The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending, the Sheriffs Department said.
Sheriffs deputies were assisted at the scene by Mercy Flight Central, state police, Lewis County Search and Rescue and the Lowville Fire Department.
