GOUVERNEUR — A Gouverneur man was charged Monday night with three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with the theft of three vehicles in August.

State police arrested Shane A. Deshane, 28, of 84 Grove St., on the charges, which involved a pickup truck and a Pontiac Sunfire that were taken and abandoned in Evans Mills and a Chrysler Sebring taken and abandoned in Gouverneur.

In each of the cases, the keys were left inside the vehicles, state police said.

Mr. Deshane was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, on the charges involving the vehicles in Evans Mills. The St. Lawrence County district attorney’s office is handling the third case.

The charges stem from an incident Sept. 14 in which Mr. Deshane was charged with driving while intoxicated, two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and single counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, as well as numerous vehicle and traffic infractions after allegedly leading state police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen pickup truck.

At the time, police said, he admitted to stealing other vehicles in Gouverneur, the town of LeRay and the city of Watertown.
