Steven D. Curran, 57 of Brushton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh where he had been a patient since Oct. 17, 2012.
Born August 1, 1955 in Malone, he was the son of the late Gerald T. Curran and Beverly Farmer Curran of Massena.
Steve was a 1974 graduate of Holy Family High School in Massena.
He was first employed by Alcoa Operations in Massena. After being laid off he drove tractor trailer for Anchor Motor Freight. Steve went back to Alcoa operations where he worked for eight years. He then worked for the Dept. of Environmental Conservation as a caretaker at Fish Creek Campground. Steve then went to work for the Dept. of Corrections where he was a corrections officer until 2010 when he retired due to ill health. He also drove school bus for the Brushton-Moira school district.
Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was a member of St. Marys Church in Brushton, and the Brushton Fire Dept. He was a hunting safety instructor, a member of the Sons of the American Legion at Brushton-Moira post, and a member of the Brushton-Moira school board for ten years.
On June 14, 1974 he was united in marriage to the former Rosemary Trumble at St. Marys Church in Brushton. She survives.
Besides his wife, Rosemary, of 38 years, he is survived by his mother, Beverly Curran of Massena; two sons and a daughter-in-law Christopher and Jennifer Curran of Brushton, and Jonathan Curran of El Paso, TX; two grandsons, Jacob and Colton Curran; two brothers, Bruce Curran of Lake Placid, and Rodney Curran of Massena; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dawn Corliss of Massena and Kathy and James Stafford of Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and one aunt, June Curran of Brushton.
Steve is predeceased by his father, Gerald T. Curran and one brother Timothy Curran.
Friends may call at the Flint Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Marys Church in Brushton with the Rev. Christopher J. Looby Officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Brushton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Brushton-Moira American Legion or the Brushton Fire Department.
