Watertown police arrested Harvey L. McCrae, 40, of 335 Sterling St., Apt. 3, on charges of first- and second-degree criminal-contempt, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child at 11:57 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Sterling Street.

Police said he is accused of violating a protection order when he struck Natosha S. Butts, Watertown, in the left side of her face with a closed fist in the presence of a 2-year-old boy that night.

He was held Wednesday at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, pending arraignment in Watertown City Court.
