A former Richville man who recently served jail time for rape has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for trying to lure a 13-year-old Gouverneur girl into sexual activity through the social networking website Facebook.

Willie J. Davis, 22, Syracuse, was sentenced Nov. 16 in U.S. District Court, Utica, to 180 months in prison, followed by 20 years of additional supervision upon his release, after pleading guilty July 3 to one count of sexual enticement of a minor, according to a judgment filed Monday with the court.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the court, a special agent with Department of Homeland Security Investigations received permission Jan. 10 to “assume control” of the girl’s Facebook account after she had been communicating on it with Davis for a few weeks.

Messages to the girl indicated he wanted to meet the girl for sexual activity, so the agent obtained an undercover cellular phone and forwarded the number to Davis via Facebook.

During the course of subsequent phone conversations with Davis, the agent pretended to be the 13-year-old girl and told him that she was planning to travel from Gouverneur to the Syracuse area in early February to visit a “cousin.” The agent, posing as the girl, arranged to meet Davis on Feb. 6 at a Syracuse mall.

When he texted that had arrived at the meeting site, he was detained by agents. He then admitted that he was there to meet the girl, that he knew her age and that he planned to take to her to a nearby apartment to engage in sexual activity.

Davis had been released just two months prior from the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, and was under 10 years’ supervision with the county’s Probation Department as part of a sentence imposed in October 2011 for a second-degree rape conviction.

In that case, he was convicted of impregnating a 14-year-old Gouverneur girl, according to court documents. He also was registered with the state as Level 2 sex offender at the time.
