POTSDAM — The Potsdam Rotary Club is providing an opportunity for a good time that also will benefit a good cause.

Tickets will be available at the door for the Rotary Club of Potsdam’s “Taste of the Town” wine, food and beer tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elks Lodge, 10 Elm St.

For a $25 ticket price, attendees will be able to sample a variety of products from local wine and beer producers, wine distributors, restaurants and food producers.

Food samples will include desserts and appetizers from the Blackbird Cafe, the Potsdam Food Co-op, the Bagelry, Little Italy, Meier’s Artisan Cheese, the Clarkson Inn and the Potsdam IGA. Wine tastings will be provided by High Peaks Winery, Lauber Imports, River Myst Winery, Southern Wine & Spirits, Venditti Vineyards and Winebow. Craft beer tastings will be provided by St. Lawrence Brewing Co. “We have a number of very supportive vendors letting you sample a variety of products in one location,” said Rotary Club member Michael P. Griffin, director of news & digital content services for Clarkson University.

Piano music will be provided by Tim Savage, a SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music alumnus.

All proceeds from the event will go toward Shelterbox USA, which provides relief for victims of natural disasters. As of Friday, Shelterbox had provided assistance to 6,000 victims of Hurricane Sandy, distributing some 5,900 blankets, 2,800 knit hats, 1,000 knit gloves and 1,699 scarves.
