State police arrested two Fort Drum men Wednesday on third-degree burglary charges in connection with a rental locker unit intrusion discovered on Oct. 13 in which guns were stolen.
Richard E. Reinhardt II, 22, and Dominic M. Walters, 22, were being held Thursday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, with bail set for each at $5,000 by LeRay Town Justice George E. Mead III. They await possible grand jury action.
Police allege that they cut locks to enter a storage unit at U Lock It Storage, 26842 Holbrook Road, Evans Mills, and stole a bolt-action rifle, a scoped semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, a 2009 all-terrain vehicle, an ATV helmet and a socket set, according to a document filed with the court. The items belong to locker renter Nicholas A. Lichner, Fort Drum.
The owner of the locker units, Walter H. VanTassel, told police he found locks cut to 14 lockers, and there was $400 in damage caused to 10 lockers.
