Construction and staffing are under way at the soon-to-open Tim Hortons restaurant in Ogdensburg.
The Canadian-based company will open Dec. 17 in the Parkway Express building, 1111 Champlain St. The building also includes a convenience store with gasoline sales and Subway, A&W and Long John Silvers restaurants.
Michael T. Webster, Parkways director of operations, said that the hiring process is moving along. Interviews be conducted Saturday at the companys offices, 1100 Champlain St.
Management and supervisory staff have been hired, and about half of the team members have been hired, he said Thursday. There are 30 full- and part-time jobs for this opening.
Tim Hortons will occupy 1,600 square feet of space that was once occupied by Wimpys Restaurant. There will be a drive-thru window in the rear of the building.
The Ogdensburg restaurant will be something of a first for Tim Hortons in that its 700-plus U.S. eateries are located in western New York, Ohio and Michigan.
Mr. Webster said Parkway pursued the company.
We sought them out, he said. We felt the brand was strong enough.
There are 3,326 Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada. Founded in 1964 by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and a partner, it is Canadas largest fast food restaurant chain.
Parkways other businesses are: Parkway Ford/Polaris, Ogdensburg; Parkway Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, Russell Road, Canton; and Parkway Express convenience store/gas stations on Route 37 in Morristown and Route 56 in Norfolk.
