MADRID - There were no individual awards following the championship game of the Jessie Chamberlain Memorial Tournament at Madrid-Waddington Central School on Thursday night.

That saved M-W Coach Gary Tischler from making a very tough decision as he would have been hard-pressed to select a Most Valuable Player after the host Lady Jackets trimmed Heuvelton 41-38 in a well-played title game.

Lisbon won the consolation game 47-23 over Edwards-Knox and M-W bested Heuvelton 31-20 in the junior varsity championship game.

“Our girls played like champions tonight against a very good Heuvelton team with a lot of size and some good outside shooters,” said Tischler.

“We played with a great deal of heart, everyone knew their roles and everyone was totally unselfish. Olivia Parmeter and Tessa Knight hit some big shots, Olivia used some great headfakes in the lane and Jenny King really made nice drop passes inside.”

Parmeter scored 14 of her 19 points in the second half including nine in a 16-10 third quarter advantage which proved to be decisive. Parmeter also hit a big bucket in the final minute. King finished with nine points, four assists and three blocked shots and Knight struck for eight points. Des Pryce tallied four points, Taylor Lenny netted a free throw and Katie Marcellus grabbed five rebounds.

Alexis Weidner tallied 14 points with three steals for Heuvelton which cut a five-point deficit to three on an inside score by Kylie Piercey with seven seconds to play and managed to come with a steal but had no time to get off a shot as time expired.

“We just let them get away in that third quarter. Overall, it was a very good game,” said Heuvelton Coach Rob Powers.

“But we just didn’t rebound well enough and we lost track of Olivia Parmeter too many times. But you have to credit Madrid-Waddington and Coach Gary Tischler who always has his teams ready.”

Maddie St. Pierre (3 steals,3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Olivia St. Pierre each scored five points, Hannah Thornhill buried a three-pointer and Ashlyn Piercey and Macy Richardson added field goals.

Lisbon 47 - E-K 23: Alex Amo scored 14 of her career high 22 points in the first half and combined with Beth Crowley to score 11 of Lisbon’s 16 points in a 16-4 fourth quarter pull-away.

“Alex Amo just had an amazing shooting night. She hitting jumpers and drives to the basket,” said Lisbon Coach Dick Marcellus.

“We played very well overall as a team and really executed on offense.”

Crowley finished with seven points, nine rebounds and four assists, Jackie Sovie tallied nine points and passed out five assists and Emily Dishaw contributed four points and seven rebounds. Gabby Walker added four points and Sam Glade netted a free throw.

Makayla Bartocha and Katie Smith tallied 10 and eight points to lead E-K.

M-W JV’s Win: Kayleigh Field and Hannah Marcellus each scored nine points lead M-W to the JV title. Amelia Bailey netted five points for the Jackets who used a swarming defense to anchor a 24-14 halftime lead.

Paige McCormick scored nine points for Heuvelton.
