Motorists accused of driving while drunk


An Edwards motorist faces several charges, including driving while intoxicated, after crashing his truck early Saturday into the corner of the residence at 859 River Road, Edwards, according to state police.

Colin A. Campbell, 23, of 848 River Road, was arrested by police at 4:07 a.m. Saturday.

Mr. Campbell is accused of being under the influence of LSD while driving. When an unidentified friend attempted to stop him from getting into his truck, Mr. Campbell punched him, police said.

There were no injuries in the crash, but Mr. Campbell was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries to his hand inflicted during the fight, police said.

Mr. Campbell also was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of marijuana and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He was taken to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, and held without bail.

Also charged with DWI and related offenses:

n James J. Cheal, 44, of 3614 Roberts Road, Carthage, was charged by Watertown police about 1 a.m. Friday with aggravated DWI and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Police said his vehicle was halted in Thompson Park near its Franklin Street entrance because Mr. Cheal was entering the park after operating hours. His blood alcohol content was alleged to be 0.20 percent. A BAC level of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or more.

n Don J. Jacobs, 23, of 412 Route 37, Hogansburg, was charged by state police at 1:24 a.m. Saturday while he was entering the United States on International Bridge Road. His BAC was not available. He also was charged with operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate and refusing to take a breath test.

n Gregory A. Thibert, 21, of 4900 Route 58, Morristown, was charged Thursday by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies during their investigation of a one-car accident on Main Street in Morristown. Mr. Thibert’s BAC was 0.17 percent, deputies said. He also was charged with speed not reasonable and prudent.

nRobert W. Simmons, 35, of 70 E. Barney St., Gouverneur, was charged by Gouverneur police at 4:43 p.m. Saturday on East Main Street in the village. His BAC was listed as 0.10 percent.

n Marilyn J. Klawiter, 52, of 205 Thompson Blvd., was charged by Watertown police at 2:12 a.m. Saturday at 25 Public Square. Police said her BAC was 0.11 percent.
