CANTON — A Connecticut woman has been identified by police as the pedestrian victim in a Sunday hit-and-run accident on Park Street in the village.

St. Lawrence University student Emily Baldwin, 18, New Canaan, Conn., was in a marked crosswalk near Brewer Bookstore about 12:30 a.m. with another woman, Liana Baker, 18, when Ms. Baldwin was struck by a northbound pickup truck driven by Dustin W. Rookey, village police said.

Ms. Baldwin was treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, for minor injuries that included bruises and scrapes, police said. Hospital officials confirmed Monday that she had been treated and released.

Mr. Rookey, 25, of 38 Pollock Road, was stopped by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies a short time later on Route 11 near DeKalb Junction. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. His blood alcohol content was 0.12 percent, police said. A BAC of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law.

He was released on his own recognizance to appear in Canton Town Court.
