Massena: Mary Lou Metruck, 77 of Medina Street Massena, passed away peacefully Monday morning (December 3, 2012) at Massena Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary Lou was born on April 7, 1935 in Massena the daughter of Charles and Iva (Sturgen) Prosper. She graduated from Massena High School in 1953 and went on to marry Stephen G. Metruck on September 4, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Church in Massena. Stephen predeceased her on October 6, 2006. Her main job was raising her children and enjoying her grandchildren. She enjoyed being together with her family and spending time at her camp in Mt. View.

Mary Lou is survived by three sons and three daughters, Cindy Ziarko and husband Marty of Rochester, NY: Rear Admiral, USCG, Stephen P. Metruck and partner Peggy Duxbury both of Washington, DC: Bruce Metruck and wife Wendy of Oneida, NY: Lisa Tyo and husband Tim of Louisville, NY: Lieutenant Colonel, USAF (Ret) Michael Metruck and wife Donna of Mary Esther, FL. and Julie Hart and husband Andy of Massena. Also surviving Mary Lou are her two brothers and two sisters, Keith Prosper of Dickinson Center; Kenneth Prosper of North Lawrence; Betty Papelian of Massena, Kathy Dann of Phoenix, NY; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Linda Fiacco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (December 7, 2012) at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church in Massena, with Rev. Scott Fobare presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Thursday, (December 6, 2012) from 4-7 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
