Benjamin R. Hollingsworth, 18, of 16569 Comstock Road, Adams, was sent Saturday to Upstate Medical University in Syracuse after a vehicle he was driving struck a utility pole, resulting in a power loss to 25 residences in the town of Henderson.

According to the accident report, at 6:13 p.m. the vehicle Mr. Hollingsworth was driving veered off the right side of County Route 71 within 1,500 feet of Brodie Road for an unknown reason.

The report said Mr. Hollingsworth then overcorrected, causing his vehicle to swerve and enter a spin, going off the left side of the road and down an embankment of about 10 feet before striking the ground. The vehicle then continued through a field until it came to a rest after striking the support wires to a utility pole, which caused the pole to shear at the top, cutting off power to residents.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mr. Hollingsworth lost consciousness as a result of the accident. He had no other visible injuries.

He regained consciousness after the accident but was unable to provide deputies with a reason for having gone off the road.

He was taken to Samaritan Medical Center and then moved to Syracuse as a precautionary measure. At 6:25 p.m. Sunday, the nursing supervisor at Upstate University Hospital said that Mr. Hollingsworth was “still here” and that his condition was listed as fair.

According to the sheriff’s office, Mr. Hollingsworth will be cited with speed not reasonable or prudent and failure to keep right.

Stephen F. Brady, a representative from National Grid, said the company restored power to the area at 1:06 a.m. Sunday.
