Watertown man faces prison sentence for burglary attempt

A Watertown man faces up to three years in state prison after admitting Monday in Jefferson County Court that he tried to steal scrap metal from a vacant city residence.

Benjamin T. Wormwood, 37, whose last known address was 130 Court St., Apt. 404, pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted burglary and also admitted that he violated terms of an earlier conditional discharge. He admitted that on Oct. 18 he, with another man, tried to enter 554 LeRay St. with the intent of stealing something. By doing so, he also violated a three-year conditional discharge to which he was sentenced in November 2011 for a third-degree burglary conviction.

He is expected to be sentenced Feb. 11 to 1 to 3 years in prison.

In other court activity:

Zachary S. Cushman, 21, Watertown, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and admitted violating probation. He admitted that on July 17 he possessed brass knuckles on North Rutland Street. It was illegal for him for have the weapon because of previous criminal convictions of second-degree criminal trespass in November 2009 and third-degree burglary in August 2010. Information about why he was serving probation was not available from the court, but he violated probation by being convicted of the new crime. He is expected to be sentenced Jan. 25 to a year in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

Edgar L. Richardson III, 35, Watertown, pleaded guilty to petit larceny. He admitted that he stole a $3.40 alcoholic beverage from the Dairy Market, 261 Franklin St., on Aug. 26. He originally had been charged with third-degree robbery after he allegedly scuffled with a store employee who attempted to stop him. He is expected to be sentenced Feb. 11 to nine months in the PSB.

Rex A. Countryman II, 21, Watertown, pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted burglary and admitted violating probation. He admitted that on Oct. 27 he, with another man, tried to enter the Huntington Heights apartment of Rochelle Cornaire with the intent of stealing something. At the time, he was serving three years’ probation imposed in September 2011 for a third-degree assault conviction. He admitted violating probation by being charged with the new crime. He is expected to be sentenced Feb. 11 to six months in the PSB and five years’ probation.

Kenneth J. Stoner, 19, Adams, was sentenced to three years’ probation for an Oct. 26 guilty plea to second-degree criminal contempt. He admitted violating an order of protection held by Ashley Deline by calling her and threatening her June 30.
