The ongoing review of the city of Ogdensburgs zoning map turned Tuesday to lot sizes.
At its monthly meeting, the city planning and development board discussed possible changes in lot widths and depths, figuring that reducing some of them will make it easier to develop and not have to deal with requests for variances.
The city is divided into seven zoning categories, each with a set of permitted and prohibited uses.
Those categories are single family residential, moderate density residential, mixed residential and business, business, industrial and institutional, mobile homes and the newly-named planned unit development district.
Planning and Development Interim Director Andrea L. Smith recommended that there be two single family residential categories. One would be where it already exists in the Proctor Avenue neighborhood on the citys east side where lots sizes are larger.
The second category would be the rest of the city where that designation exists, but in smaller lots in dense neighborhoods.
The board will discuss recommended lot dimension changes in future meetings.
In other business, it was recommended by board member Linda Pellett that language describing the purpose of the multi-use planned unit development district be kept in the code.
The language states that the code should uphold the spirt and intent of this chapter to promote orderly growth and sound development of the City and ensure that the health, safety and general of prospective residents in the (PUD) and adjacent residents will be protected.
I think its an important philosophy. Ms. Pellett said.
Ms. Smith said similar language already existed in the code, but could put the passage back in the PUD section.
The last time there was a review of the zoning map was in the mid-1990s.
