OFA Girls Soccer team honored

Entering the 2012 season, OFA Girls Soccer Coach Lauren Morley felt that her Lady Devils were ready to challenge for the Section 10 Class B Championship.

Her vision never materialized as Gouverneur downed the Devils in overtime in the sectional semi-finals leaving the team with a final record of 5-5-5. But according to Morley, the Devils made definite strides for their program and created a memorable season as a very well-rounded team which was a pleasure to coach.

“This was my sixth season and this team definitely ranks as one of my favorites. I really thought we could win Class B this year but Gouverneur proved to be our nemesis,” said Coach Morley.

“But we won our tournament for the first time since I have been coaching here and we beat Potsdam twice, which Owon Class B. I don’t know when was the last time OFA beat Potsdam twice in girls soccer so that was a big step.”

Defender Stacy Barr was honored for earning First Team All-NAC Central honors and halfback Nikki Holmes and forward-halfback Shannon Tooley were both voted to the Second Team. Goaltender Erica Chase received the team’s NAC Sportsmanship Award.

Coach Morley presented two special team awards honoring Mackenzie Bresett with Blue Devil Pride Award and Nikki Duprey with the Most Improved Player Award.

Coach Morley also took great pride in the team’s academic record.

Sixteen players formed New York State Scholar-Athlete Team Award contingent which combined on a 90.77 average and 11 players earned NAC All-Academic Awards which go to sophomores, juniors and seniors who maintain an 88 average during the season. NAC All-Academic Awards went to Brooke Badlam, Stacy Barr, Mackenzie Bresett, Mary Burns, Erica Chase, Zendel Cordwell, Nicole Hammond, Brittany O’Grady, Kaitlin Sheppard, Courtney Sherwin and Shannon Tooley. Composing the NYS Scholar-Athlete Team Award contingent were: Badlam, Bresett, Barr, Burns, Chase, Cordwell, Hammond, O’Grady, Sheppard, Sherwin, Tooley, Danielle Guimond, Jocelyn Fifield, Kaitlyn Piercey and Nikki Duprey.
