Just let go of your political rage

Now that the election is over, I expected much of the rhetoric and outrage to have subsided. Instead, the far right seems to be as angry as ever. How do they keep it up? Do they start the day with a pot of coffee, a pack of cigarettes and an hour or two of Fox& Friends?

A healthy dose of Rush Limbaugh throughout the day just to keep the juices flowing and the blood pressure elevated? Then, as bedtime approaches, some Sean Hannity or Bill O’Reilly providing enough worry to fuel the broken sleep patterns of the politically frustrated?

Every day it’s the same old thing. If you’re not advancing in your work place, blame it on affirmative action. Taxes too high? It’s those welfare queens and all the other slackers riding that poverty gravy train. When factories close and jobs are outsourced to China, just blame the labor unions and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Are your kids failing in school? It must be the teacher’s fault. As for the gay agenda, let’s not even go there. Everything else can be blamed on the fact that Obama has been elected president for a second term.

You’ve got to get over this. I may be one of those liberals whom you dislike, but I am truly worried about you. Just say no to all the hate. Your vitriol has absolutely no effect on me and my kind, but it could be killing you.

Try this. Turn off the radio and TV. Take a walk outside and marvel at the beauty of the mountains we call home. Your autographed photo of Ann Coulter doesn’t need to be on the bedside table. Put it in a drawer.

Say a prayer for the unborn and then do something nice for someone who is already alive and in the world. A disadvantaged child might need your help. Donate to the food bank. Read a book. The Bible would be good; how about starting with the Sermon on the Mount?

Count your blessings. The glass is really half full. We Americans have so much to be thankful for. Work for the good of all and you might just find your life is full of abundance in a way you never, ever thought possible.
