HARASSMENT - MASSENA - Village police charged Benjamin P. Sheldon, 37, of 128 Merchia Road, Churubusco, also listing a 3 Clark St., Massena, address, with second-degree harassment and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief following a domestic dispute Tuesday afternoon with his long-time girlfriend.
Sheldon was arraigned Tuesday night by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond.
Sheldon allegedly pushed Christine A. Dumas during an argument and threw Ms. Dumas cell phone and a cordless phone during the 3:15 p.m. argument. She told police her cell phone was broken during the dispute.
Ms. Dumas, in her statement to police, said she had dated Sheldon for the past nine years, but she said he had moved in and out several times over the past year.
Today he came to the house to pick up his items. He came to the door to give me my cell phone. When I opened the door, he pushed me back. He put both hands on me, and I wouldnt let him in. He pushed his way into the house. I asked for my cell phone, and he threw it down the stairs into the basement, she noted in her statement.
She said Sheldon then grabbed the cordless phone, preventing her from calling the police. Ms. Dumas said Sheldon then headed toward his vehicle, and she followed him, grabbed the phone and called police.
During his arraignment, Sheldon told the court he was overwrought by his anxiety.
