The North Country Remembered photograph in Sundays Times presented an interesting contrast with todays downtown Watertown.
The photo showed holiday shoppers shoulder-to-shoulder as they crossed Public Square at the American Corner in December 1945. The crowd was described as near peak with long-gone businesses such as J.R. Miller, W.T. Grant and the Hotel Woodruff in the background.
Fast forward to today when the shopping center has shifted to the western edge of the city, and its bumper-to-bumper cars headed out Arsenal and Coffeen streets.
