Several injured Friday in snow-related crashes


Snow and ice contributed to numerous car crashes Friday in Watertown and in St. Lawrence County, resulting in several injuries and traffic citations.

n Shannon L. Boyer, 20, Dallastown, Pa., could not control her westbound car at Factory and Mechanic streets in Watertown, and skidded into the rear of a stopped auto driven by Cassandra A. Freeman, 24, Evans Mills, police said. The Freeman car was pushed into the opposite lane, where it collided with a vehicle driven by Glenda M. McDermid, 43, Carthage. The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m.

Ms. Freeman required treatment for leg pain, and Ms. McDermid had arm pain, police said. Both were treated at Samaritan Medical Center.

Ms. Boyer was cited with following too closely.

nNo summonses were issued in an accident at 2:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Washington Street in Watertown. Police said Troy C. Parker, 22, of 155 Park Ave., attempted to stop, but his car slid into the rear of a sedan driven by Emily E. Herman, 20, Calcium, who was stopped in a northbound line of traffic. Miss Herman suffered neck pain and was treated at Samaritan Medical Center, police said.

n Joanne C. Dutton and Clifford R. Barclay crashed head-on on county Route 31, Waddington, at 9:47 a.m. Friday when Ms. Dutton lost control and swerved across the road, according to state police.

Both drivers had a passenger, and all four were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, with minor injuries.

Ms. Dutton, 42, of Cogswell Corners Road, Massena, complained of abdominal pain.

Ramsey Dutton, 14, same address, suffered from chest pain.

Mr. Barclay, 54, of 4 Harper Road, Lisbon, was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries.

Heather Claffey, 34, of Lime Hollow Road, Norfolk, complained of knee pain.

n Kayla P. Viau, 22, of Winthrop, lost control of her car on Route 11C, Lawrence, and hit a tree at 1:44 p.m. Friday. She was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for chest pain.

n Sharee N. Willcuts, 24, of 1969 Route 11C, lost control of her car on County Route 53 in Brasher, and hit a tree at 1:53 a.m. Friday.

Ms. Willcuts and her passenger, Hope S. Pickering, were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for neck and back pain.

Miss Willcuts was ticketed by state police for speeding.

n Nicholas T. Barcomb, 20, of 8 Lincoln St., Canton rear-ended April D. Terry, 26, of 500 Line Road, Box Elder, S. Dakota on Irish Settlement Road, Ogdensburg at 4:29 p.m. Friday.

Ms. Terry was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center for unspecified minor injuries.

Mr. Barcomb was charged with following too closely.
