Jefferson Community College has some talented professors under its roof, according to the state university system.

The State University of New York bestowed two JCC faculty members with distinguished rankings Monday.

Political science professor Raymond E. Petersen earned the Distinguished Service Professorship and English professor Joanna B. Chrzanowski earned the Distinguished Teaching Professorship.

“We are quite simply thrilled at this honor for Dr. Chrzanowski and for Dr. Petersen,” JCC President Carole A. McCoy said in a press release. “Throughout her tenure at Jefferson, Joanna’s focus has always been on teaching and student success. She is a superb classroom instructor and campus leader. In addition to his exemplary skill in the classroom, Ray is a campus leader, researcher, presenter and active citizen at the regional and state levels.”

According to JCC’s website, Ms. Chrzanowski began her career at the college in 1980. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Albany and a doctorate degree at Syracuse University. She also earned the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in teaching in 2004.

Mr. Petersen started teaching at JCC in 1985, according to the website, which also shows he earned his bachelor’s degree at SUNY Oswego and his master’s and doctorate degrees from the City University of New York.

Statewide, eight professors were added to the SUNY Distinguished Academy this year.
