Clarence Scougel


CARTHAGE- Clarence Robert (Bob) Scougel, died on January 1, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Theresa under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Son of the late Ruth Sherman and Clarence Scougal, he was born on November 7, 1932 in West Carthage. He was raised in Herrings.

He married Betty Jane Branagan on November 30, 1957 in Smyrna, New York. They had three daughters Robin and her husband Edward Lawton of Theresa; Rosalie Paul, Florida; Kim King, Martinsburg; and one son Keven Scougal, Theresa.

Also surviving are two sisters; Doris Kraimer and her husband Earnest of Carthage; Ruthy Sly of Herrings; and two brothers, Clifford and his wife Margaret; Carthage; and Robert Scougal, Watertown.

He is predeceased by his wife Betty, two sisters, Betty Simmons, Geraldine Paul, and one brother David, and a great- granddaughter, Piper Lyn Moore.

Bob served with the Army Reserves as a Military Policeman for 4 years. He was employed at Braman’s Sawmill in Carthage and AMF of Lowville before going to work at the New York Air Brake in Watertown, NY. He eventually was disabled in 1982 after multiple back surgeries.

His hobbies included Fishing and Gardening; he loved a neat and trim yard. He enjoyed playing cards and watching wrestling. When his wife, Betty passed away in 2011 Bob and Keven moved to Theresa to live with his daughter Robin and her husband Ed Lawton. He was admitted in the hospital in November for surgery where he stayed almost 4 weeks. He came home on Hospice to enjoy his last two weeks with family! Thank You Hospice of Jefferson County.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 from, 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with the Rev. David Allison, Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Carthage, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Fairview Cemetery, Carthage.
