Lyons Falls- Claire H. Garnsey, 85, of Gorham Street, passed away December 27, 2012 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness.
She was born July 25, 1927 in Lyons Falls, NY and a daughter of Frederic and Irene Clune Hoskins. She grew up in the family operated business, Hoskins Lumber Company, on Gorham Street where many homes and businesses were built by her family, one being Burrows Paper Mill. Claire graduated from Lyons Falls High school and during WWII she was employed with the F.B.I in Washington D.C., the Postal Service, Dolhof Hardware, Teals Express, Boces in Watertown and Glenfield and retired after more than 15 years as village clerk for Lyons Falls. She married Everett Garnsey, he died in 1999.
Claire was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and cross word puzzles. She was a member of St. Johns Church, Lyons Falls.
Surviving are two sons and daughtesr-in-law, Joseph and Robin Garnsey, Boonville and Richard and Carol Garnsey, Baldwinsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Garnesy-Dell and Gary Dell, Champagne, IL and Theresa Garnsey and Timothy Paluck, Constableville; one brother, Donald Hoskins, Harrisburg, PA; one sister, Ann Cardinal, Sacremento, CA; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Michael and Peter Garnsey, one brother, Robert Hoskins and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at the Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls in the spring. There are no calling hours. Memorials in her name may be made to Lyons Falls Library.
