The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park has hired Jason Harris as education coordinator.
Mr. Harris has nearly 20 years experience in the field of education.
We are excited to have someone with Jasons background join our institution, said John T. Wright, the zoos executive director. We feel his engaging personality will make our educational programs more engaging and fun, while at the same time sharing our conservation mission.
After several years providing direct classroom instruction for special needs and gifted students, Mr. Harris joined the Honolulu Zoo Society as its education director and outreach coordinator. He also has extensive experience as a professional entertainer.
At the zoo in Watertown, Mr. Harris will be responsible for the management, growth and development of the education department and will oversee educational programming both on site and in the community. He also will provide mentoring and leadership for the zoos docents and volunteers.
Mr. Harris is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Claudia, will move to the Watertown area soon.
