Constableville- Jeanne Marie (Powell) OBrien, 82, a long time resident of West Main St., widow of Stuart J., passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since December, 2012.
She was born in Utica, on August 29, 1930, a daughter of Donald H. and Eleanor M. Gillen Powell. A life long resident of Constableville, she graduated from Constableville High School with the Class of 1948, and then from State University of N.Y. at Oswego, with the Class of 1952, where she received a bachelors degree in elementary education.
From 1952 until 1957, she taught fourth grade at Boonville Central School, thereafter for thirty years she taught elementary grades at Constableville Central School, of South Lewis Central School System, retiring in 1991.
On December 27, 1956, Jeanne Marie was united in marriage with Stuart J. OBrien at St. Marys Church, Constableville. Mr. OBrien died on August 22, 1971.
She was a member of St. Marys Church, Constableville and Mrs. OBrien had served on the Constableville Village Board, and the Constableville Library Board. For many years she served as the committee person for the Lewis Co. Democratic Party, and was a member of N.Y.S. Teachers Retirement System. Jeanne Marie greatly enjoyed bowling, and for many years she bowled in Constableville on the Alpine Easy Aces Bowling Team, and in Boonville she was in the Ten Pin Bowling League, and the Senior League.
Jeanne Marie greatly enjoyed traveling, and she had toured Ireland, England, Switzerland, Hawaii, Alaska, Nova Scotia, and had been on several cruises.
Her beloved daughter Mollie L. OBrien died on May 19, 2007.
She is survived by one brother, Raymond D. Powell, Osceola, NY, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, sister in law, Joann OBrien, Oneida, and a brother in law and his wife, Thomas and Mary Ann OBrien, Constableville.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. St. Marys Church, Constableville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor, will officiate. There are no calling hours. Interment will be private in the spring in St. Patricks Cemetery, Constableville. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund at South Lewis Central High School in memory of the OBrien family: Stuart J., Jeanne Marie, and Mollie L., in care of, Mrs. Cherene Stocklosa, 8730 Domser Rd., Boonville, NY 13309, or Miss Judith Duppert, 7704 West State St, Lowville, NY 13367.
