The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority is opening ice-fishing access to Wheathouse Bay to the public when conditions are safe.

“The authority is pleased to once again open Wheathouse Bay to ice fishing activity effective immediately for the winter through March 15,” said Wade A. Davis, the authority’s executive director. “The site offers a unique winter experience for ice anglers throughout the north country which nicely compliments the St. Lawrence River Valley’s FISHCAP program.”

The state Department of Environmental Conservation recommends at least four inches of solid ice for safe ice fishing. Users are reminded to access the site through the authority’s new port access road at the lighted intersection at Ford and Barre streets, be aware of increased port traffic and utilize the site responsibly at their own risk.
