Salmon River avoided a second straight loss by outlasting Massena Central while Potsdam Central turned back Gouverneur for its second straight win in NAC Central Division varsity girls basketball action on Monday.
Salmon River 43, Massena 39: At the Massena High School Gym, junior Abby Kelly fired through a game-high 23 points, including the first nine points of the game for the visiting Lady Shamrocks, who relayed a 22-20 halftime lead into the win. She also logged five rebounds, three assists and three steals while Taylor Francis tallied seven points, seven boards three assists and two steals. Jaiden Mitchell finished with five points, seven rebounds two assists and three sterals. Also contributing toward the winning effort were Kwiio King (7 rebounds, 4 points, four assists), Zaagaate Jock (2 points, 5 rebounds) and Jocelyn Martin (2 points, 4 rebounds).
Alisha Jacobs had two three—pointers in pacing the Lady Raiders with 18 point. She also tallied 10 rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block while Marissa Manley worked the paint for her ninth double-double in 10 games this winter, netting 12 points and grabbing a game-high 11 boards. Steffanie Premo added four points and three steals. Sidney Thompson finished with two points and nine boards. Bailey Young had two points as well while Samanntha Villnave closed out the Massena scoresheet with a free throw.
Salmon River (7-2, 4-2) is slated to play an interdivisional game at Chateaugay on Wednesday while Massena (5-5, 3-2) returns to action this evening on the road against Central Division rival Franklin Academy with the JV game starting at 6 p.m.
Massena won the JV game 57-18 as Jessica Rode tossed through 18 points and Jaylee Jones another 13 while Madeline Thibault and Devin Kelly each finished with nine.
Brooke George led the junior Lady Shamrocks with seven points.
Potsdam 47, Gouverneur 42: In Potsdam, the Lady Sandstoners overcame a first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Wildcats 25-18 through the second and third quarters before going on to post their first Central Division win this winter.
Shanielle Chambers led all scorers with 19 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the winning effort. Sarah Vivlamore chipped in another 15 points followed by Bre Sapp with nine, Taylor Bonno with four and Kate Hildreth with two.
Kristin Roberts netted 14 points for the Lady Wildcats (2-8, 0-7). Rebecca Bulsiewicz contributed seven points while Danielle Bullock and Alisha Way added six apiece followed by Jessica Rotundo with five and Rachel Knowlton with four.
Potsdam (2-6, 1-5), which has now fashioned two straight wins, will look to stay on track on Thursday at Central Division rival Franklin Academy.
Canton 44, OFA 42: In Ogdensburg, Emma Rexford scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter while Katie Christy and Kali Frank led a constrictive defensive effort which produced seven straight stops in the second half as Canton (5-1 NAC, 7-1) rallied from an 11-point deficit to shade the host Lady Blue Devils in the other Central Division game of the night. Frank, who executed four steals in the fourth quarter, scored eight points for the Bears and Emily Pinckney netted seven. Christy and Tori Daley each scored five points and Rachel Sanderson added four. Susie Morrow and Riley Luckie combined for 13 and 10 points for OFA (8-3, 5-2).
The other NAC varsity girls basketball games played Monday saw Madrid-Waddington gain a 37-17 North Division win at home Tupper Lake while interdivisional action had St. Lawrence Central stopping Colton-Pierrepont 53-34 and Brushton-Moira overwhelming St. Regis Falls 56-6.
M-W 37, Tupper Lake 17: In a matchup of undefeated division leaders, the host Jackets (7-1, 4-0) took a 13-2 lead after the first-quarter lead and led 21-8 at the half over the Lumberjacks (8-3, 5-1).
Olivia Parmeter tallied five of her team high 13 points in the first Jenn King scored four of her six points in the first quarter for M-W. King posted four boards, two assists and two steals while Parmeter added six boards, four assists and three steals. Tessa Knight generated 12 points while Desi Pryce added five points, five rebounds and two steals. Katie Marcellus finished with five rebounds, one point and two assists while Taylor Lenny chipped in four steals. Katie Stuart tallied 14 points and posted 11 rebounds and three steals for Tupper Lake, who played without the services of Lindsey Maroun who was injured last week. Liz Zurek added seven boards.
SLC 53, C-P 34: In Colton, Sam Richards tossed through a game-high 17 points and Breanna Vatter added another 16 as the Lady Larries (5-5, 4-2 NAC North) built a 3-0-11 halftime lead and never looked back for the win. Lindsey Thayer added 10 points toward the winning effort.
Morgan Doyle scored 17 points and tallied eight rebounds for C-P (3-6, 2-2 NAC East). Kylie McKinley added five points, five steals and four rebounds. Autumn Clark chipped in nine points.
B-M 56, SRF 6: In Brushton, the Lady Panthers scored 12 unanswered points in the first quarter then stretched their commanding lead to 25-1 by halftime as Arielle Gary netted a game-high 14 points followed by Mackenzie King with 11, Danielle Trim with nine and Miada McCarthy with eight.
For the Lady Saints, Brittany Rondeau netted three points, Kaitlyn White two and Makensy Bazdaric one.
In NAC West Division matchups on Monday, Clifton-Fine dropped Edwards-Knox 72-32, Lisbon beat Morristown 49-24 and Harrisville outscored Hermon-DeKalb 40-31.
