MASSENA – Mrs. Rose C. Rush, 78, of 24 Williams Street, peacefully passed away Thursday morning, January 10, 2013 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Rose was born April 11, 1934 in Bombay, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Doris Conway Sabrey. She attended Malone schools where she graduated from Franklin Academy in 1952. She later graduated from CCBI Business School in Syracuse. She took courses at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake. On April 12, 1958, she married Roy S. Rush at Notre Dame Church in Malone with Father Lamitie, celebrating.
Rose was the medical records librarian and acting administrator for the Highland Nursing Home for 34 years until her retirement in 2002. She had previously worked at Massena Memorial Hospital and Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She was a longtime communicant of St. Josephs Catholic Church, Massena and a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary for 46 years. She was also a member of the New York State Medical Records Association and the Massena Red Foxes of the Red Hat Society. Rose was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading, playing cards, and for many years she and her husband enjoyed many winters in Florida.
Rose is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Roy; her five children, David Rush of Wappinger Falls, NY; Daniel and Jackie Rush of Massena; Stephanie and Charles Massarelli of Poughkeepsie; Craig and Barbara Rush of Lexington, KY; and Lisa and Rick Tinson of Glastonbury, CT. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a special niece, Sharon Brand of Highland, NY; and nephew, Jon and Nancy Rush of Rochester, MN.
Rose was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Blanche L. Sabrey on May 14, 2010 and Rita M. Rush on July 31, 2010.
Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where the members of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary will meet at 3:00 PM for a memorial ritual. A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose will be celebrated Monday, 11:00 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church with Rev. Jack L. Downs, celebrating and Rev. Scott D. Fobare, concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena, in the spring.
