Watertown High teacher arrested

A Watertown High School English teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly making alcohol available to minors at a New Year’s party at her residence, 24287 County Route 67, Watertown.

Kate D. Harrienger, 44, was arrested by New York State Police on one count each of first degree unlawfully dealing with a child, which is a Class A misdemeanor, and second degree criminal nuisance, which is a Class B misdemeanor, according to the police report.

The police report states the beverages were provided without parental permission.

“The Watertown City School District wishes for the public to know it has fully cooperated and assisted in this investigation,” according to a statement released by the district around 4 p.m. Thursday.

“The district cannot comment further on the matter as this is a pending criminal and personnel matter,” according to the district’s released statement. “The district is taking the appropriate action to place the teacher involved on administrative leave pending further administrative and/or criminal proceedings.”

According to the police report, Ms. Harrienger was issued an appearance ticket for Watertown Town Court.
