HEUVELTON — An Ogdensburg man has been ticketed in a crash that injured an Amish man and left his horse dead.

State police said Friday that Richard E. Smithers was cited for following too closely in connection with the collision on Route 184 Thursday evening.

Samuel Miller, of DePeyster, was driving a buggy westbound about 5:30 p.m. when the carriage was struck by a car driven by Mr. Smithers, who was traveling in the same direction.

Mr. Miller was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, with non-life-threating injuries. Mr. Smithers was later taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The crash remained under investigation Friday, and further information was not immediately available.
