LOWVILLE — An ex-convict was jailed Thursday after allegedly threatening another man with what appeared to be a handgun.

Village police charged Mark A. Rahman, 30, Lowville, with second-degree menacing. He was arraigned in Village Court and sent to Lewis County jail without bail.

Mr. Rahman was accused of seemingly pulling out a gun during an argument with another man, whom police did not name, on Sunday on South State Street.

He was released in August after serving nearly one year and three months in state prison on a conviction in Jefferson County Court on a charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Mr. Rahman in that case admitted that he possessed a credit card belonging to Nellie Truesdell on Jan. 19, 2010, in Watertown. He also admitted that he stole her purse from Truesdell’s Service Center, 231 Mill St., but said he did not know the purse contained credit cards, which made the theft a felony.
