Max M. DelSignore hired as NNYCF’s coordinator of donor services

As the Northern New York Community Foundation continues to grow, its staff and board of directors want to make sure its donors are well taken care of.

Executive Director Rande S. Richardson said that is why the agency hired Max M. DelSignore as its coordinator of donor services, a newly created position.

“Over the last four years or so, we’ve seen a substantial growth in the number of funds established,” Mr. Richardson said. “This is part of our commitment to make sure our donors’ needs are attended to. We just don’t want to neglect the donor portion of what we do.”

He said Mr. DelSignore, who began work Jan. 2, was selected from among about 12 applicants.

“A major portion of his work will be about increasing awareness in areas of our community where we’re not as well known, including St. Lawrence County,” Mr. Richardson said. “Anyone who has things they want to accomplish through their work with us will have him as an additional contact.”

Mr. DelSignore also will be responsible for agency outreach to schools, nonprofit agencies and individual donors.

As the agency continues to expand throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties, Mr. Richardson said, he wants people to be aware that it offers more than just scholarships and grants. People also may set up funds, administered by the foundation, for specific purposes.

Making the community aware of all the foundation has to offer also will be a responsibility of Mr. DelSignore, Mr. Richardson said. Mr. DelSignore also will handle some program initiatives, such as a new youth philanthropy council that is in development in St. Lawrence County. The foundation already has one established in Watertown, through Watertown High School.

“We wanted someone that had a passion and familiarity with the community,” Mr. Richardson said. “He brings with him some development experience as well.”

Before joining the agency, Mr. DelSignore said, he was an associate director of annual giving at St. Lawrence University, Canton. He also was a sportswriter for the Watertown Daily Times from 2005 to 2009.

“The roots run deep in the north country,” the Watertown native said.

A graduate of Sackets Harbor Central School, Mr. DelSignore said he was drawn to apply for the donor services coordinator position by a desire to go back to familiar surroundings. He said he also has been impressed with what the foundation has accomplished the past several years, and said he looks forward to being a part of the future growth.

“It’s going to be a nice learning process for me,” he said. “Being able to meet with key stakeholders is the main aspect of the job I look forward to in the years to come.”

Mr. Richardson said bringing Mr. DelSignore on board brings the Community Foundation back to having four staff members, as it had in 2009 when the late Alex C. Velto was executive director, Mr. Richardson was associate director, Louise E. Scarlett was the program director and Shari Scott was controller. Mrs. Scarlett has since retired and has been replaced with April L. Fallon as coordinator of partnerships.

The addition of Mr. DelSignore not only will ensure the agency builds on its momentum, Mr. Richardson said, but attends properly to existing donors.
