ALEXANDRIA BAY — Town of Alexandria Councilman James R. Durand is stepping down after serving since 2002.

Mr. Durand and his wife are moving to Florida but will remain seasonal residents of Alexandria Bay.

Town Supervisor Dale D. Hunneyman said Mr. Durand, who was born and raised in Alexandria Bay, was an excellent councilman who will be missed for his intelligence and positive attitude.

Because there is still a year left on Mr. Durand’s term, the board is likely to appoint someone to fill his seat for the rest of the year. Mr. Hunneyman said the Town Council does not want to rush a decision but will discuss the matter at its next regular meeting.
