LISBON — The Planning Board noted at Monday’s meeting that Code Enforcement Officer Christopher J. Sherwin attended only three meetings last year and failed to show up at the first meeting of 2013.

“We’ve started the year off with a code enforcement officer who’s not here,” Planning Board President Steven Wallace said. “There are a lot of things that are not getting done by the code enforcement officer.”

Mr. Sherwin’s position is part time, and he is not required to attend meetings, Town Council member Alan D. Dailey said.

“I am very thankful that he has the time that he can give us,” Mr. Dailey said. “He was already trained, and we didn’t have to pay the training.”

Mr. Wallace said, however, that most of the town’s past building inspectors regularly attended meetings.

“I’ve got buildings that are falling down near us that I know have been reported to Chris and nothing’s been done. I’d like to know what the follow-up is and what’s going to happen,” Mr. Wallace said.

In the past, Mr. Wallace said, Planning Board members who drove around the town could report potential problems to the code enforcement officer, who would address those reports. But this isn’t happening anymore.

Mr. Wallace said he raised the issue with Town Supervisor James W. Armstrong, and Town Council member Gary J. Jarvis said he will also look into the problem.

In the meantime, Mr. Sherwin has also applied for an open code enforcement officer position in the town of Morristown.

Mr. Sherwin could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
