Cartha Heath Gaebel, 102,, Franklin St., passed away Tuesday at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had been a resident since September of 2012.

She was born in Rodman, September 19, 1910, a daughter to Orrin and Susie Cagwin Heath. She attended school in Rodman and Adams Center High School. She went on to study at Ruth Thomas’ Beauty School in Adams where she received a certificate as a beautician. She operated Kartha’s Beauty Shop in Copenhagen and Watertown.

Cartha married Gary Gaebel July 25, 1969 at the First Baptist Church. Mr. Gaebel, a Niagara Mohawk employee passed in 1971.

She is survived by her sister Emogene Heath, Watertown; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Addie Rose Heath, Orrin William Heath, Malcolm Cagwin Heath, William Donald Heath and Gladene Elmina Jessmer.

Funeral services will be held in the spring. Spring burial will be in Union Cemetery, Adams Center. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.
