Oleta M.”Poot” Mantle, 80, of 47409 Dingman Point Road, died Tuesday afternoon at Upstate University Medical Center, Syracuse, where she had been a patient since January 2nd.

Born September 13, 1932 in Syracuse, NY, daughter of Merrill and Muriel Meeds Abernethy, she graduated from Carthage High School. She worked in her younger years as an operator for New York Telephone Company in Carthage, and later in Syracuse.

She married Dr. Donald N. Mantle on December 20, 1955 in Carthage.

Oleta was a member of the River Hospital Auxillary, the Reformed Church Women’s Guild, where she also served as a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Alexandria Homemakers.

Besides her husband, Oleta is survived by a son David W. and his wife Nancy of Pittsford, NY, a daughter, Robin Mantle, Alexandria Bay, two granddaughters, Kristin and Traci Mantle, both of Pittsford, NY, a sister Justine and her husband Dr. Robert Trowbridge, Adams Center, NY , a cousin, Muriel Arndt, Denmark, NY as well as nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 1-3pm at the Costello Funeral Home, with a memorial service beginning at 3pm, officiated by the Rev. Kerri Weldon. A reception will follow the service in the Jubilee Hall, at the Reformed Church.

Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Reformed Church, the Alexandria Bay Fire Department, the MacSherry Library, or the River Hospital Foundation.
