The Frederic Remington Art Museum is gearing up for its 16th annual middle and high school art exhibit.

The exhibit will be featured in the Richard E. Winter Gallery on the second floor of the historic building, with an opening reception Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

“It’s a wonderful exhibit featuring middle and high school-level art work from a variety of schools around the county,” Laura A. Foster, museum curator, said.

Students from Clifton-Fine, Colton-Pierrepont, Ogdensburg Free Academy, Lisbon, Massena, Morristown, Parishville-Hopkinton and Potsdam central schools will have art work on display, Mrs. Foster said.

In addition to the public school work, creations from the Frederic Remington Home School art program will be featured in the gallery.

“This is a terrific way to support and celebrate the participation in art in the schools,” Mrs. Foster said.

There will be roughly four pieces of art submitted by each school.

“It brings families into the museum that have never been here,” she said. “Sometimes they mean to come for 20 minutes and end up spending the entire afternoon.”

While the exhibit will run until Feb. 23, the opening day reception provides an opportunity to meet the young artists and their teachers.

“If you come to the opening it’s free,” Mrs. Foster said. “And there are snacks, and it’s warm.”
