Gun control laws used for personal agendas

Grandstanding politicians and news anchors are quick to jump on the gun control bandwagon, mostly for self-serving reasons instead of trying to resolve a very sensitive subject.

Yes, tragically approximately 11,500 people are killed every year in the U.S. by firearms. But approximately 33,000 people are killed every year in auto crashes. Yet this subject won’t be brought up, because they can’t get enough mileage out of it to get elected president or more points on their ratings.

We as a country allow auto manufacturers to make cars that can easily go twice what the national speed limit is. If we were to lower the national speed limit to 30 mph and install limiting devices on all vehicles, we would easily save 20,000 lives per year, which is almost twice those killed by guns every year. Although this will never be allowed to happen because SUV driving, suburbanite living and commuters who have to live 80 miles from where they work would vote any politicians out of office. As you see there are always two sides to every issue.

We need to calm down and not put more laws on the books that punish the law-abiding citizens who enjoy their Second Amendment rights. We need to support longer jail times for violent felons. Why was the guy who killed those two brave volunteer firefighters close to Rochester ever allowed out of prison? For God’s sake he beat his own grandmother to death with a hammer. Why? Because as a country we all want lower taxes that don’t allow for longer prison terms for the violent killers. Or for mental health facilities to help or keep the insane off the streets as everyone knows now that the shooter in Connecticut needed major help or confinement, as that alone would have prevented that tragedy. Stand back, take a hard look at the issues and use common sense to solve these issues, not use them for your own agenda.

Lowering the speed limit would save thousands of lives and get us off the dependence of foreign oil, which would get us out of the Middle East mess that is a no win situation!
