Local colleges: Hobart defeats SLU men’s hoops

CANTON — The St. Lawrence University men’s basketball team missed a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Liberty League standings after falling at home 65-47 to undefeated Hobart on Friday night.

Stefan Thompson led Hobart (8-5 overall, 4-0 conference) with 20 points, and Richie Bonney added 18 points for the Statesmen.

Brady Condlin led the Saints (5-9, 3-2) with 14 points. Janpeter Brase scored 12 and Al Jones added 10 for SLU.

CLARKSON 65, RIT 55

John Coleman scored 17 points and Jerry Coleman added 16 to send the Golden Knights (11-4, 3-3) past RIT in a Liberty League contest in Potsdam. Felix Abongo added 12 points for Clarkson. Nick Dobson led the Tigers (4-10, 0-5) with 12 points and Jameel Balenton tossed in 10.

SUNY POTSDAM 82, SUNY ONEONTA 62

Mark Lake Jr. scored 25 points to lift the Bears (6-8, 2-5) past SUNY Oneonta in a SUNYAC contest in Potsdam.

Curtis Pierce scored 11 points and Joe Estramonte added 10 for SUNY Potsdam.

Zach Mager led SUNY Oneonta (2-11, 1-6) with 16 points. Frankie Kelly produced 14.

MORRISVILLE STATE 73, SUNY CANTON 63

Mickey Davis and Kucjok Ater each scored 11 points to lead Morrisville State (10-4) past the Kangaroos in a nonconference game in Canton.

Michael Pulci led the Kangaroos (5-11) with 12 points. Tyler Ellison tallied 11 points and Khalid Vaughn, Scott Dixon and Scott Bartenstein each had 10.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

CLARKSON 3, COLGATE 1

Danielle Skirrow and Erin Ambrose scored second-period goals to help the Golden Knights (18-5, 10-1) overcome a 1-0 deficit to beat Colgate in an ECAC Hockey game in Hamilton.

Christine Lambert scored for Clarkson. Jocelyn Simpson scored for the Raiders (6-14-2, 1-8-2).

CORNELL 6, ST. LAWRENCE 0

The Big Red scored three goals in the second and third periods to blank SLU (13-9-1, 8-3) in an ECAC Hockey contest in Ithaca.

Brianne Jenner and Jessica Campbell each scored two goals for Cornell (13-4, 9-2). Lauren Slebodnick made 20 saves for the shutout.

ANOTHER TOP-FIVE FOR DURHAM

Ashley-Kate Durham earned her seventh career top-five finish by coming in fifth place in the grand slalom for the SLU women’s Alpine team at the SLU Carnival in Wilmington.SLU’s women finished in sixth place and the men came in seventh, led by a 10th-place individual showing from Ben DeFlavio. The Saints women’s Nordic team came in ninth place in Lake Placid and the men were 10th.
