MASSENA After 20 years in business here, the Yankee One Dollar store will be closing its doors.
Its not that we want to, but things have been pretty bad the past few years, company President Keith R. Flike said.
Mr. Flike cited Walmarts move into the village as the beginning of the end for his store.
That kind of became the center of the retail universe, he said.
He also noted theres a lot more competition in Massena than there used to be.
When we opened, there werent so many national retailers, he said. Were just a regional player.
He said the store employs seven to eight workers. The closure will leave the chain with 27 stores across upstate New York and Vermont.
