Elizabeth Reff

CAPE VINCENT & ALEXANDRIA BAY — Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, Elizabeth (Beth) Reff, 82, passed away January 20, while surrounded by her family, at the Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health. Beth is survived by her five children; Tina (Wally) Siebel of Potsdam NY, Teri (Larry) Imes of Sarasota FL, Marty (Deann) Reff of Colorado Springs CO, Toni (Mark) Welzbacher of Lake Mary FL, Mike (Laura) Reff of Cazenovia NY; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild, two sisters; Theresa and Sara, and two brothers; John and Jim. Beth was preceded in death by Noel, her loving husband of 39 years, one grandson Nicholas Martin Reff, her parents, Lionel and Anna (Connie) Constance, her sister Nan, and her brother Bill.

A native of the North Country, Beth was born in Watertown NY and graduated from Cape Vincent Central School in 1947. She married her high school sweetheart and they quickly set about building a family while continuing the family farming business in Rosiere. In 1960 they gave up the farming business and moved to Alexandria Bay where she and Noel raised their family. Beth kept a warm and welcoming home, always encouraging her children to bring their friends home to play. She will be remembered by many as “Gramma Goodies” as Beth always had some tasty snacks for the kids to nibble on, and during the holidays Beth would hang candies from the ceiling tiles of her home, promising the mouth-watering confections only to those boys and girls who promised to be good. As her kids grew older it wasn’t uncommon for Beth to open her home at any hour of the day or night to rustle up a hearty meal of bacon and eggs for all to enjoy. Beth was also a well-known specialty cake baker and decorator, delivering her delicious and uniquely designed cakes throughout the 1000 Islands.

After her kids had grown, Beth and Noel vacationed in their motor-home and eventually became snowbirds living in The Bay, and wintering in Arizona. After Noel passed, Beth, never one to sit idle, turned the family homestead into the “Mug ‘n Muffin”, a bed-and-breakfast where she served piping-hot coffee, her trademark homemade muffins, and jams made with berries she grew in her own backyard. Finally, Beth came home to her roots and settled in a cozy little cottage in Cape Vincent.

Per her request, and at the family’s convenience, there will be a burial service at the Barnes Settlement Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Nicholas M. Reff Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Martin Reff, 2650 Summerhill Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80920. Arrangements are with the Cleveland Funeral Home.
