Norwood Village Green Series awarded $7,500


NORWOOD - The New York State Council on the Arts, through its Presenting Organizations Program, has awarded the Norwood Village Green Concert Series $7,500 for its 40th anniversary season.

NYSCA has also established a three-year award cycle for the series and is expected to award similar grants for 2014 and 2015.

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series is further supported by additional public funds from the town of Potsdam and the village of Norwood. The total amount of public funds the series will receive in 2013 will total $15,400.

Total costs of the milestone, 40th anniversary season will be $53,000. The series has set as its fundraising goal the balance of $37,600. It expects $5,000 from foundations, $8,000 from “pass the buckets” and $24,600 from businesses, corporations, organizations and individuals.

The 2013 season will be a celebratory 40th anniversary blockbuster.

Some of the greatest artists of their genre have been programmed. Two exceptional jazz headliners, Denis DiBlasio and Juno award recipient Kellylee Evans; two diverse dance groups, Soul Street and Dance Cadense;, Grammy awarded Country and Americana singer Suzy Bogguss; the much celebrated master storyteller David Gonzalez accompanied by Daniel Kelly; a very special gospel group, the Campbell Brothers;, and a legendary Irish fiddler and ensemble Frankie Gavin and DeDannan will be part of the banquet.

Liz Queler and Seth Farber will accompany singer/songwriter Lou Coppola and will also perform their “Edna Project, There will also be some very talented local performers including The All Star Big Band under the direction of Wally Siebel, John Kribs, Barb Heller, The Atkinson Family Bluegrass Band, Northern Symphonic Winds, and the duo of Mary Ann Casale and Andy Van Duyne. A celebratory season comes with a price. For 2013, the price for performer’s fees is considerably higher than any other season by over $4,000. It totals $37,450. “It will be money well spent and will further enhance our area’s sense of place and community. It will do it through the arts on the most basic level - the arts in and of the community,” series organizer Joseph Liotta said.

The general public is asked to consider supporting the series for its 40th anniversary season with a financial contribution. All donations are tax deductible. Donations of $25 or more received before the printing deadline of May 24 will be published in the program guide unless the donor indicates anonymity.
