The library’s ongoing mission to achieve financial stability has been warmed recently by some unexpected generosity.

The library recently received a pair of $5,000 donations, according to Director Wayne L. Miller.

He declined to identify the benefactors at their request.

“They wish to remain anonymous,” Mr. Miller said.

Time won’t be wasted in figuring out what to do with the money. The library’s $582,712 budget for 2013 is less $13,000 in city funds and without an $11,502 allocation from St. Lawrence County.

“We will use these large and the many small donations given for magazine and newspaper subscriptions, new fiction books, ebooks, and movies,” he said. “To avoid reducing staffing and hours we may have to use some donations to cover basic operational costs that exceed the 2013 city allocation.”
