AARP and National Rifle Assocation are similar; both are profit-making lobbyist organizations. The NRA wants to protect us by having law-abiding (Second Amendment) militia wandering around with AK47s and similar rapid-fire assault weapons.
AARP wants to protect us by spending money we dont have and passing the bill to future generations.
Both pay exorbitant salaries to their CEOs and board members and obscene amounts to buy the votes of those who were presumably elected to represent us.
These are but two of the thousands of lobbying organizations, political action committees and nonprofit advocacy corporations trying to pick the pockets of some of us to fill the pockets of others. I am not sure if this is capitalism or socialism. Apparently there is no limit to how much freedom of speech you can buy.
Where is all of this headed?
Maybe its time for an honest discussion about term limits and the elected official-to-lobbyist games being played.
