Norfolk- Francis Edward Frank OKeefe, 78, Lacomb Rd., Norfolk, passed away Tuesday morning at his sons residence where he was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County and his family.
Frank was born in Jersey City, NJ, February 19, 1934, a son to Raymond D. & Grace Flannery OKeefe. He graduated from St. Michaels High School, NJ, on June 18, 1953. Following graduation, he served two years in the U.S. Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal with the 67th Med Det, and 67th Tank Battalion. He also earned credit as a Korean War Veteran.
Following his honorable discharge, Frank was employed by Public Service Electric and Gas, Secaucus, NJ as a foreman for 30 years. He also was a volunteer fireman with Hose Company #1 for 14 years, and attained the rank of Captain. He later moved to Massena, NY where he accepted a job as a General Foreman with Massena Electric. Frank was one of its first employees, and assisted in the establishment of the new utility company.
Frank retired in 1995 and moved to Murrells Inlet SC, a favorite vacation spot of his through the years. He enjoyed many years of sunshine and ocean, but decided to move back home in 2004 to spend time with his family in Norfolk, NY.
He enjoyed watching the New York Giants and fishing.
Francis is survived by his wife: Jacqueline Grant OKeefe, Norfolk; his children: Francis G. OKeefe, Norfolk, William G. (Brenda L.) OKeefe, Watertown, Susan I. (Edward F.) Shyne, Cicero, Kimberly G. (John) McCarthy, Norfolk; his grandchildren: Amanda OKeefe, William OKeefe, Ross OKeefe, Jimmy Shyne, Megan McCarthy, Emily McCarthy; and his siblings: Loretta OLoughlin, Metuchin, NJ, Betty Fitzpatrick, Philadelphia, PA, Edna OKeefe, South Brunswick, NJ, Raymond OKeefe, Charlotte, NC.
In accordance with Franks wishes there are no public services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Jefferson County Hospice, 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
