Man charged with DWI after striking Key Bank sign in Winthrop

AGGRAVATED DWI - BRASHER FALLS - James A. Shaker, 54, of 94 McEwen Rd., North Lawrence, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated by state police at 3:03 p.m. Friday.

Police were investigating a hit-and-run accident in Winthrop after a vehicle crashed into the sign at Key Bank and left the scene. Shaker’s van matched the description of the vehicle in the crash, and he was driving in the middle of the road on Route 11C in the town of Brasherwhen he was found, according to troopers.

His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.18 percent. A BAC of 0.08 percent constitutes a DWI count, and the charge is elevated to aggravated DWI when the blood alcohol content is 0.18 percent or higher.

He was also ticketed for leaving the sign of a motor vehicle accident.
