STAR LAKE – Mary Rogene Henrie, 89, of Kinney Nursing Home, Gouverneur, N.Y. died Saturday morning. Calling hours will be held at the Hawley Funeral Home in Star Lake on Monday January 28th from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. The funeral will be held at 11:00am Tuesday January 29th at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, Star Lake.

Mary was born on February 3, 1923 in the town of Pierrepont to Maurice and Ella Quinn Corcoran. She attended the Irish Settlement School and graduated in the class of 1938 at Colton High School. Mary graduated from Potsdam Normal School in 1943. Mary taught 3 years of primary school in South Colton and 35 years in the Clifton-Fine Central School District.

Mary married Charles Henrie on July 21, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton, N.Y. Charles predeceased her on September 25th 2007.

Mary belonged to the Clifton-Fine Teacher’s and Retired Teacher’s Association as well as the NYS Retired Teacher’s Association. She received the Outstanding Elementary Teacher’s of America Award in 1974. Mary also was honored with the DeWitt Clinton Community Service Award from the Mason’s.

She is survived by 3 sons, John Henrie and Jackie Geminski, Thomas and Lynne Henrie and Patrick and Donna Henrie. 3 daughters, Rogene and Thomas Rice, Joan and Timothy Parr and Barbara Henrie and Jaana Moilanen. 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Mary also is survived by 2 sisters, Marguerite O’Gorman and Esther Namian, sister and brother in laws and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was an avid sports fan, reader, historian and spending time talking with family friends. She and Charles were active community members and attended many local events. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
