ROME Andrew Marilley and Joey Ongkingco each won two events and contributed to a pair of first-place relays to help lead the Watertown boys swimming team to its fifth consecutive league championship title during the Frontier League championships at Rome Free Academy.
Watertown, which claimed nine of 12 events, including all three relays, scored 390.5 points, while Holland Patent placed second with 275.5 points. South Jefferson (254) and Lowville (222.5) were third and fourth, respectively, out of 15 schools.
Marilley won the 500-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Ongkingco captured the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle.
Michael Netto of Watertown won the 200 individual medley and swam legs on two victorious relays. He finished second in the 100 breaststroke, his signature event, finishing .04 seconds behind Dillon Moyer of Sherburne-Earlville. Moyer swam a state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 1.18 seconds. The qualifying standard is 1:01.20. Netto has competed at states in the breaststroke the last two years and holds the school and league records in the event.
Shayne Watson secured the diving event for Watertown during the diving championships on Jan. 19 at South Jefferson. He also qualified for states and set a school record with a score of 440.85.
Zachary Whitenack of General Brown claimed the 50 free, while Barrett Celecki of Holland Patent took the 200 free.
BEAVER RIVER 3, SANDY CREEK 0
Melissa Hunt recorded 10 kills, 18 service points and 16 digs as the Beavers knocked off the host Comets in a Frontier League C-D Division matchup at Sandy Creek.
Keegan Bowman had 10 assists for Beaver River (12-4), which won 25-20, 25-20, 25-22. Madison Compton also contributed 13 digs and seven kills.
For the Comets, Kylie Hanni finished with nine kills, 13 points, four aces, three blocks and nine digs. Kylie Martin pitched in with three kills, five aces and 13 assists, and Michaela Martin supplied six kills and eight digs. Grace Wallace added seven kills and four aces for Sandy Creek (13-3), which has clinched a share of the division title with Lowville (12-3).
SOUTH LEWIS 3, GENERAL BROWN 1
The Falcons swept past the Lions in a nonleague match held in Dexter.
Liz Egnew totaled 24 kills and 14 service points, including eight aces, to pace South Lewis (11-5), which prevailed, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 25-14.
ST. LAWRENCE 5, TUPPER LAKE 0
Blake Baldwin scored three goals to lead the Larries past the Lumberjacks (1-12-1, 0-10) in a Division II game in Brasher Falls.
Devon Euto , Luke Arquiett also scored for St. Lawrence Central (12-3, 9-1). Nathan Burnett made 17 saves for the shutout.
POTSDAM 8, MALONE 2
Josh Locey and Mark Maroney each scored two goals to lead Potsdam to a victory over Malone in a Northern Athletic Conference interdivision game in Malone.
Corson Green, Trevor Keleher, Robbie Scott and Brandon Noble also scored for the Sandstoners (11-4 overall, 7-0 division).
Trevor Henderson and Cameron Daniels scored goals for the Huskies (7-7-1, 3-6-1).
CANTON 2, SALMON RIVER 0
Jake Watsons 26-save effort led the Golden Bears past the Shamrocks (1-12-1, 0-7-2) in a Division I game in Canton.
Jack Elberty and Tanner Sanderson scored goals for Canton (5-9-2, 3-3-2).
MADRID-WADDINGTON 49, GOUVERNEUR 37
Bridget Beldock scored 13 points to help lift the Yellow Jackets (11-1) during a nonleague game in Gouverneur.
Tessa Knight added 10 points for Madrid-Waddington. Kristen Roberts paced Gouverneur (2-13) with 11 rebounds and 10 points.
BEAVER RIVER 41, LOWVILLE 30
Abigail Cornell was dominant inside as she registered 22 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks in the Beavers Frontier League C Division win at Beaver Falls.
Allison Meyer added eight points for Beaver River (4-11, 4-9).
Anna Platz paced Lowvlle (2-12, 2-11) with 11 points.
SOUTH JEFFERSON 69, SANDY CREEK 12
Clarissa Perry fired in a game-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Spartans beat the Comets in a Frontier League crossover game in Adams.
Marissa Clark chipped in with 13 points for South Jefferson (13-0).
Amber Bonney had eight points for Sandy Creek (4-11, 3-10).
HARRISVILLE 58, CLIFTON-FINE 22
The Pirates led 23-2 early and cruised past the Eagles (1-13, 0-10) in an NAC West Division game in Harrisville.
Joey Butts scored 14 points to lead Harrisville (11-3, 8-2) and Justin Hartle tossed in 10 points.
INDIAN RIVER 69, GOUVERNEUR 23
The Warriors routed the Wildcats in a nonleague game at Philadelphia as five players hit double figures.
Malik Tillman scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Indian River (11-4). Shelton Williams and Demetrius Gibson also scored 12 points apiece, Marcus Keys had 11 and Justin Mattingly 10.
Mark Horne scored nine points for Gouverneur (4-10).
GOUVERNEUR 59, OFA 16
Seven pins helped the Wildcats defeat the Blue Devils (8-8, 4-2) in a meet in Ogdensburg.
Joey Bush (106 pounds), Dillon Stowell (120), Zach Ayen (132), Joey Love (138), Martin Countryman (160), Justin Garrison (195) and Hunter Ayen (285) won by pin for the Wildcats (13-5, 8-0).
Alex Cole (170) and Tanner LaPiene (99) won by pinfall for Ogdensburg Free Academy.
