HANOVER, N.H. Dartmouth Colleges mens hockey team came out inspired Saturday after blowing a third-period lead in a loss to St. Lawrence University the previous night.
The Big Green never trailed Clarkson on Saturday and defeated the Golden Knights 5-1 before 3,714 fans in an ECAC Hockey game at Thompson Arena. Dartmouth outshot the Golden Knights 49-21.
They had a little bit of an extra step on us, Clarkson coach Casey Jones said. We didnt have our A game tonight. We worked hard and did some things.
Dartmouth (11-7-2 overall, 7-5-1 ECAC Hockey) led SLU 2-1 after two periods on Friday and then gave up three goals to the Saints. But the Big Green came out aggressive in Saturdays game, outshooting Clarkson 18-5 in the first period, although they had no goals to show for their effort.
I thought we were doing a good job of collapsing and helping out in the defensive zones, Jones said. We may not have had quite the edge we had (Friday) night.
Dartmouth finally scored midway through the second period on a shot from Matt Lindblad at 10 minutes, 36 seconds, and still held just a 1-0 lead after two, despite a 36-12 edge in shots.
The Big Green extended the lead to 2-0 when Tyler Sikura scored a power-play goal at 3:51.
Clarkson (5-13-6, 4-6-2) got back in the game at 11:00 of the third period with a goal from Joe Zarbo, who had a hat trick on Friday in a 5-1 win over Harvard.
Hes natural around the net, Jones said. If he gets hot, its going to be a good thing for us. He has the ability to control a game.
Dartmouth regained a two-goal advantage just 2:54 later with a goal from Eric Robinson and added two late goals.
