DANBURY, Conn. Cody Ayers scored a pair of goals and Nick Niedert made 26 saves to post the shutout as the Danbury Whalers blanked the Thousand Islands Privateers, 3-0, on Sunday in a Federal Hockey League game at Danbury Ice Arena.
Mike Atkinson contributed a goal and an assist for the Whalers (20-17), who won two of three games against the Privateers over the past three days.
Danbury seized a 2-0 lead with two goals in the final two minutes of the first period as Ayers scored while on the power play and Atkinson followed with a shorthanded tally at 19:38. Ayers added a goal in the second period.
Newly acquired goalie Michael DiLorenzo made 60 saves for the Privateers (18-21).
Thousand Islands will host the Dayton Demonz at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
